TIO CAFL NO MORE Round

The Central Australian Football League is proud to announce the Foster Webb Shield will be played in Round Two of the 2016 TIO CAFL Premier League between Pioneer Football Club and South Football Club at Albrecht Oval while the Tony Cusack Family Shield will be played in Round Three of the 2016 TIO CAFL Premier League between Federal Football Club and South Football Club.

Andy Hood, Central Australia Regional Manager said it was an exciting time for football in Central Australia with lots happening over the next few weeks.

“Round Two of the TIO CAFL Premier League will see Pioneers take on traditional rivals South for the annual Foster Webb Shield,” Hood said.

“In what promises to be a great match, the Foster Webb Shied typifies the CAFL and its rich history between two strong family clubs who have produced some champion footballers.

“It is one of the most traditional shields played for in the CAFL and tomorrow’s match is a highlight of our fixture,” Hood said.

Another Shield will be contested next week in Round Three of the 2016 TIO CAFL season.

The Tony Cusack Family Shield, named in honour of Tony Cusack who became a quadriplegic following an incident on the football field in the mid 90s, is contested between Federal and South in the Premier League.

Hood said the Tony Cusack Family Shield is about playing in the spirit of the game and showing there is more to football than winning.

Round Three is also the ‘NO MORE Round’, a campaign against family violence.

“More than 80 Australian women and men were killed in 2015 by family violence and the ‘No More’ campaign uses the community power of sport to change the way the public views family and domestic violence,” Hood said.

“It is an important round with a more important meaning. We will see all players linking arms before the match as a symbolic statement to show that everyone who links up is committed to ending the violence no matter where or who they are.

“When our players link arms they will be raising awareness about the issue and sending a strong message to everyone that family violence is never acceptable,” Hood said.

All Premier League teams in Round Three of the 2016 TIO CAFL season will be linking arms and taking a stand against family violence.

The TIO CAFL Foster Webb Shield will be played at 3.00pm at Albrecht Oval on Saturday 30 April between Pioneer and South football clubs.

The TIO CAFL Tony Cusack Shield will be played at 7.00pm at TIO Traegar Park on Saturday 7 May between Federal and South football clubs.

The ‘No More Round’ will take place in Round Three across all divisions of the TIO CAFL (Saturday 7 May). Sign up to show your support at nomore.org.au.
