A season of Change - Springvale Baseball Club

Sport has an incredible ability to bring people together. But its influence can extend well beyond what happens on the field. 

Throughout the 2025/26 baseball season, Springvale Lions Baseball Club made a commitment to A Season of Change – working alongside NO MORE to use their club, their people and their voice to help prevent domestic and family violence.

It wasn’t about one event or one big gesture. It was about creating conversations, challenging attitudes, increasing understanding and asking people to think about the role they can play in creating safer, more respectful communities.

In this conversation, Simone Wearne sits down with Dr Chelsey Taylor, social impact and gender equality specialist, to reflect on the Season of Change and what they learned along the way.

Importantly, they talk about the small things.

• The conversations we have. The behaviour we accept. The language we challenge. The example we set. The moments when we choose to speak up rather than stay silent.
• Community sporting clubs are made up of people – teammates, friends, parents, partners, coaches and volunteers – and that makes them incredibly powerful places to influence change.
• Springvale has shown that a club doesn’t need to have all the answers to start.
• It just needs to be willing to have the conversation, take action and keep learning.
