Ltyentye Apurte Sports Weekend

Staff from CatholicCare NT Central Australia attended the Ltyentye Apurte Sports Weekend 11th-12th of April, cooking a BBQ before all the action on Saturday morning. Chamari Alaharuwan, Siobhan Ivins, Beverly Gardiner with Gaurab Ghimire from No More and Charles Assenso-Gyimah from the Gambling Program were working our stall while Joshua Tilmouth and Dylan McKinley filmed everything for LtyentyeVISION!

The event was a huge success with plenty of footy, softball, basketball and even a Battle of the Bands! The teams from Lajamanu were our biggest winners; taking out the top prize in Division 1 Footy with a 1 point victory over Walpiri Warriors, and the Basketball (in which Lajamanu 1 defeated Lajamanu 2!). Ampilatwatja won Division 2 Footy, while Desert Wind won the Battle of the Band!

Atyenhenge Atherre Aboriginal Corporation (AAAC) tirelessly worked the Merne Mwerre kitchen and Desert Cafe (in addition to coordinating the weekend) and the Ltyentye Apurte Catholic School sold pizza to fundraise ahead of Term 2 school, showcasing the importance of stakeholders working together to contribute to a brilliant event for our remote communities.
