Tennant Creek Celebrates Unity and Diversity on Harmony Day

On Harmony Day, the Tennant Creek community came together in a meaningful display of unity, respect and inclusion. The event had representatives from community members, CatholicCare NT, BRADAAG, Tennant Creek Community Correctins, SARC, Anyinginyi, Barkly Regional Council, Tennant Creek Police, CAAFLU, CAWLS, Mifant, Territory Families and others highlighting the power  of collaboration and shared values in strengthening local ties.

Throughout the day, attendees engaged in various activities, starting with heartfelt speeches that emphasised the importance of diversity and unity in shaping the future of Tennant Creek. One of the most impactful activities was the hand painting exercise, where participants placed their hands on a banner, symbolizing their personal commitment to the values of "Shared lands, shared stories, shared future... everyone belongs." This powerful visual display was a testament to the deep sense of belonging and solidarity felt within the community.

The celebration continued with a community lunch, providing a chance for meaningful conversations and connection. As people gathered, the photographs taken during the event captured the vibrant spirit of collaboration and the strength of community ties.

The banner, a central symbol of the day’s activities, will remain on display at BRADAAG as a lasting reminder of the event's impact. It will stand as a tribute to the successful cooperation between CatholicCare NT and BRADAAG, as well as a reflection of the broader commitment to creating a more unified and supportive community in Tennant Creek.

In the words shared during the event, Harmony Day serves as a reminder that working together, respecting each other, and celebrating our differences are integral in building a future where everyone feels valued, supported, and part of a thriving community.

This successful event is not just a one-day celebration; it marks a continued journey toward greater inclusivity and community strength in Tennant Creek. The collaboration and spirit of the day reflect the ongoing efforts of organizations and individuals committed to creating positive change and fostering an environment of respect and safety for all.

We thank every individual and organization who participated and contributed to making Harmony Day a powerful, memorable event.
